Endodontics is a branch dealing with the treatment of root canals in teeth. Our patients who need root canal treatment usually apply to the dentist with complaints of pain in the tooth and sensitivity to heat. In such cases, the patient feels pain when the tooth is tapped (percussion). In cases that do not show any signs of pain, the tooth is dead and there is lesion formation at the root tip. The diagnosis of such cases is made as a result of facial swelling or X-rays.
Root canal treatment is performed under local anesthesia and pain is not felt. An entrance is made to the root part of the tooth in the jawbone through a cavity (cavity) opened to the nerve layer (pulp) of the tooth from the crown part of the tooth seen in the mouth. The nerves of the tooth are located in the root canal. Our teeth may have 1,2,3 canals, and some of our sick teeth may have more canals than the normal. Root canal treatment is the process of removing the nerves, shaping the canals and cleaning them from microorganisms, and then filling the enlarged canals. Then, the crown part of the tooth is restored according to the extent of the damage and the aesthetic and functional continuity of the tooth is ensured. There may be pain in the tooth that has had root canal treatment for two or three days after the treatment. Care should be taken not to chew with the treated part. Pain relievers can be used to reduce pain.
