Oral Diagnosis and Radiology

Oral diagnosis and radiology; It includes a comprehensive examination by the dentist.

  • Information about your general health status and the medications you use regularly, if any, are obtained.
  • You will have a general oral examination.
  • Your expectations from the treatment are evaluated.
  • X-ray examination may be requested for diagnostic purposes.

Oral diagnosis is very important not only for dentistry, but also for systemic diseases. So much so that some intraoral and extraoral findings may be the harbinger of some systemic diseases.

A good and correct dental treatment is only possible with a correct diagnosis. Diagnosis in dentistry is called “oral diagnosis” and can be described as “the art of using scientific knowledge to identify all intraoral and extraoral problems and to distinguish between them”.

What imaging methods do we use?

Panoramic Film: It is a film shooting technique in which the curves of the upper and lower teeth and adjacent tissues and formations are displayed on a single film. It provides information to the physician in treatment planning with the general view and details it gives. It is also used to examine the sinuses.

Periapical Film: It is a type of small film that gives the closest image of the related teeth taken from the mouth in one-to-one size. It gives a detailed view of the related tooth group and jawbone.

Bite-Wing Film (Biting Radiography): It is especially used to detect caries formed between teeth and adjacent teeth.

Wrist Radiography: It is used to determine the bone age of pediatric patients in orthodontic treatment planning.

Cephalometric Film: It is especially used in orthodontic treatment planning, it shows the relationship of the lower and upper jaws and the skull base of the teeth and other formations.

TMJ Film: It is used to detect temporomandibular joint (lower jaw joint) movements and related problems.

Occlusal Film: It is used to determine the horizontal position of the teeth, to examine the sutures of the jawbone or to examine the salivary glands and ducts.

Dental Volumetric Tomography: It is used for jaw tumors, implant planning, impacted teeth, airway measurement (sleep apnea). It provides 2D and cross-sectional analysis of the maxillofacial region.

In our radiology clinic, protection methods are applied to our patients in accordance with the standards of the International Society for Radiation Protection and the Turkish Atomic Energy Agency.

All of our radiography devices are licensed by these institutions and routine controls are carried out.
